BEFORE — A Kitchen Ready for a New Chapter
The original kitchen belonged to an older home that had retained much of its traditional character over the years. Dark wood cabinetry, dated finishes, limited storage, and a closed, compact layout made the space feel smaller and disconnected from the way a modern family lives today. When the new homeowners took over the property, they saw potential beyond the existing footprint. Their vision was to transform the outdated kitchen into a sophisticated, welcoming space that could become the true heart of the home, somewhere designed not only for cooking, but also for gathering, relaxing, and spending time with family and friends. They wanted a modern yet timeless aesthetic, more functional storage, improved lighting, and a stronger connection between the kitchen and the surrounding living areas. Most importantly, they wanted the renovation to feel intentional and architectural rather than simply replacing old cabinets with new ones. The design response reimagined the kitchen around custom cabinetry, a generous island, integrated seating, layered lighting, warm metallic details, and a refined neutral palette, giving an aging kitchen an entirely new identity. The goal was simple: preserve the feeling of home while completely redefining the way the space could be lived in.

MATERIAL & COLOR PALETTE
The palette was built around contrast: deep charcoal cabinetry, soft white stone, black accents, and warm brushed brass.
The result is a palette that feels modern, warm, and timeless rather than trend-driven.
FAUCET & SINK
The black undermount sink was selected to visually disappear into the darker elements of the kitchen rather than becoming another bright fixture competing for attention.
Above it, the brushed brass faucet creates deliberate contrast against both the black sink and light stone countertop. Its clean, sculptural profile complements the contemporary character of the kitchen, while the warm metallic finish introduces a subtle sense of luxury.
LIGHTING AS JEWELRY
The pendant lights were chosen almost as jewelry for the kitchen.Their combination of clear glass, warm brass, and slender proportions adds elegance without introducing unnecessary visual weight. Because the cabinetry already has a strong presence, transparent glass allows the pendants to make a statement while maintaining openness and sightlines through the space.The brass detailing also echoes the faucet and cabinet hardware, creating continuity throughout the design.
BACKSPLASH & LAYERED LIGHTING
Rather than introducing another strong material or pattern, the backsplash was intentionally kept minimal and visually quiet.This creates a continuous backdrop for the darker cabinetry and allows the warm under-cabinet lighting to wash softly across the surface. Integrated lighting was used not only for task illumination but also to add depth, highlight the horizontal lines of the design, and create a warmer atmosphere in the evening.
